Disciples Of Babylon - a new discovery!

I have listened to lots of music and different bands, and been influenced by what my parents have played in the house, but I love it when I make a new discovery! I have recently come across LA based band, Disciples Of Babylon and I am really enjoying what I'm hearing. They have released a 3 track EP of great modern rock tunes, Welcome To Babylon. Featuring Karma, The Great Pretend and Arrived, these guys have made a great start! Check them out and let me know what you think.

FM hit the road in the UK

As some of you may already be aware, I am about the biggest FM fan you could possibly come across (Steve Overland being my singing idol!).
Stiv is my favourite singer of all time!
I have quite literally grown up listening to their music thanks to having parents who have followed them for over 30 year. I am extremely excited to be heading on a road trip in a couple of weeks to Nantwich, Cheshire (all the way from Aberdeenshire, Scotland) to see the guys for the 5th time.
Special guests, Romeo's Daughter and Lawless will also be taking to the stage at Nantwich Civic Hall on Sat 6th May. I have waited a very long time to see Romeo's Daughter, so I am really excited to be seeing them for the first time. There are only a limited number of tickets left for this special show (which usually sells out), so don't hang around getting yours, for what is going to be one truly amazing night. Here are the rest of the FM dates for this year so far - make sure you catch them when you can!

Bonfest - honouring Bon Scott

Bonfest in Kirriemuir, Scotland is honouring its very own Bon Scott on 28th - 30th April with a weekend festival dedicated to the late, great AC/DC frontman.
With ex AC/DC drummer, Phil Rudd and his band appearing on Friday night, it's the fabulous Live/Wire headlining Saturday, (check out my interview with Simon A.K.A. Angus, from the band, here!), and Hayseed Dixie close the event on Sunday. This is sure to be a great weekend! You can grab your tickets here.

Watch Spike from the Quireboys, telling me he only drinks apple juice!

Here's my exclusive interview with Spike from The Quireboys after their terrific show at The Assembly in Aberdeen this week (review here). Spike lifts the lid on the secret of the bands' longevity, constant touring and what he has in that glass onstage! A big thanks to Spike and the team  for their time. Make sure you catch the boys on the road - see dates here.

The Quireboys, Aberdeen - live review

Formed by Spike (look out for my exclusive interview very soon!) in the mid 80s long before my time, The Quireboys hit the stage of The Assembly in Aberdeen last night.

It was my first time seeing the bluesy rockers and they didn’t disappoint, playing a mixed set of old and new material, which sat well together. It was just a shame that there were some issues with the sound in the venue throughout the evening.

Opening the night were Norwegians, Souls Of Tide followed by prominent hat lovers, Last Great Dreamers. Both did a great job of warming up the crowd.

The Quireboys hit the stage kicking off the set with Twisted Love, the title track from their most recent release, Paul Guerin’s gorgeous, warm-toned guitar riff hypnotising the crowd. The guys then moved onto a mix of tunes, getting the whole venue grooving.

Finishing with the hit, 7 O’ Clock the band were then warmly welcomed back on stage with the crowd chanting their name (something rarely heard nowadays) to finish the night with I Love This Dirty Town and Sex Party.

Spike's usual charm (drink in hand!), coupled with the incredible talent of the band meant the guys delivered a fun filled evening with some classy rock n roll. A fabulous night with some fine musicians. I was very pleased to get the chance to see these guys live soon. Make sure to catch the band when they're playing near you.

What you won't know is that I was lucky enough to be invited to perform We'll Stop At Nothing with the guys earlier in the day at the soundcheck. Watch the video to see how I got on! A huge thanks to James, the band and crew for looking after me so well.

You will be hearing a lot more of We'll Stop At Nothing in the months ahead - check back soon for exciting news on this.

Toseland exclusive backstage video chat and gig review - Glasgow 10/4/17

James Toseland and his incredible band took Glasgow by storm when they hit the stage at King Tut’s’ on Monday night. With a set full of melody packed rock tunes, the guys delivered a full-on, impressive headline show.

Check out my exclusive backstage chat with James

Opening the night were Birmingham rockers, Black Rose Cadillac, who were out on their debut tour.  Their energetic approach and riff-led songs soon warmed up and won over the crowd, ensuring they were ready for the headliners.Promising.
Highlights of Toseland's outstanding set included fan favourites, ‘Renegade’, ‘We’ll Stop At Nothing’, and ballad, 'Just No Way’ which saw the talented frontman wheel out his keyboard and deliver an intimate, touching performance of the song.

Credit must also go to James for calmly diffusing a couple of boozy punters who became a little too exuberant. He soon had them onside, whilst his talented band didn’t miss a beat!
A hugely impressive show from a band on the rise. With European dates and festival appearances to come, don’t miss them!

The Dead Daisies - Join The Chain Gang fan movement

Right, I think it is about time I spoke about the one and only 'The Dead Daisies'! I have had the pleasure of seeing these guys multiple times and they never fail to blow me away!

In honour of all their loyal fans, the guys have decided to set up a group designed to make all dedicated followers a link in The Dead Daisies family - The Chain Gang.

This is an opportunity for fans to spread the word and help the band grow, receiving rewards in doing so. Fragile Things - ex Heaven's Basement/Roadstar/Hurricane Party frontman returns (video)

Ex frontman of Heaven's Basement, Roadstar and Hurricane Party, Richie Hevanz seemed to disappear from the music scene for a while, but there is no doubt that he is back with a bang, with his new band Fragile Things

'Angry' by Fragile Things
I first met Richie when I was 4 years old, and Heaven's Basement (formerly known as Roadstar) were my favourite band. Richie was always my favourite so I was gutted when he left!

Richie and I when I was younger!
I later discovered that he had formed Fragile Things, so I thought I'd share with you their new single 'Angry'. (See above for the lyric video)

If you haven't heard of Fragile Things then I would advise you to check them out as they make fab music and are starting to climb the ladder. Appearing at festivals like Hair Metal Heaven in Hull, and Amplified, you'd better look out for these guys!

Check out Dan Reed Network on stage with a Scottish piper!

It seems like only yesterday that I was having the time of life watching the great Dan Reed Network with the fabulous VEGA in Glasgow. If you haven't seen my interview with Dan then check it out here, and for the full review of the show, click here.

Check the video above to see the Dan Reed Network piped off stage after a truly special show (46sec in)

Dan and the boys added a lovely touch to the only Scottish show on their UK tour last month. The band had a Scottish piper lead them in, which immediately won the hearts of everyone in the venue. This wasn't the only cultural touch they had added -  the band were wearing kilts too!

After an energetic set full of favourites picked by the crowd themselves, and a beautiful rendition of 'Long Way To Go',  the piper played Scottish classics, 'Flower Of Scotland' and 'Auld Lang Syne' as DRN left the stage, through a path in the crowd. With the crowd hooked, the band watched in awe as everyone joined in a sing-song of the piper's tunes.
